The Position
Laboratory Technicians perform standardized technical laboratory procedures requiring knowledge in the life and physical sciences.

This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) in the Clinical Laboratory. Agency positions may be assigned to any SNAMHS work location, initially this position is anticipated to be assigned to the Laboratory, located at 1650 Community College Drive in Las Vegas. Lab Technician IIs perform Point of Care (POC) clinical laboratory tests and record test results; stain and label specimens; follows all established hospital and clinical laboratory policies and procedures relevant to the position, safely performs a variety of venipuncture techniques using standard and safe phlebotomy equipment, professionally interacts with patients and the hospital team; knowledge of patient, laboratory safety; participates in laboratory data collection and preparation of reports; participates in proficiency testing for point of care instruments; clean and maintains safe environment in the laboratory; communicates professionally on the phone; operates the centrifuge, prepares send out laboratory testing using reference lab computer system and prepares specimens for send out to reference laboratories; adheres to storage requirements for biological samples to ensure stability and meet shipping guidelines in accordance with all applicable laws, procedures and established protocols; and performs quality control, assist in inventory and stocks supplies; proficiency and calibration testing on laboratory equipment with supervision. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience in a laboratory setting that involved performing various laboratory tests and experiments, and maintaining and repairing basic laboratory equipment; OR one year as a Laboratory Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Certification is a specific field may be required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    Must have Phlebotomy Experience or Training Certificate.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
