The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position manages the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). The incumbent travels out to twelve (12) reservations in rural Nevada and conducts client eligibility determinations, which includes interpretation, explanation and application of federal program regulations in processing applications. Responsible for the food distribution and nutrition education to clients; program inventory management, including ordering product and reporting usage each month through the federal reporting system.
Certification as a Registered Dietician is preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Nutrition is also preferred.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of paraprofessional experience which included providing social services, medical assistance programs services, or health care services to the public and required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR two years of experience as a Family Services Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required.

Additional Position Criteria
Experience in school or community based organization that addresses hunger issues.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
