Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
This position is located at the Department of Motor Vehicles, Carson City Office, and will be responsible for performing as the public/government relations officer and providing marketing communication and public program strategy oversight. The incumbent will develop and possess a vast knowledge of the Department's policies and procedures while learning the various roles of Divisions within the Department; interact directly with the public; mediate conflicts between customers and the Department; and act as a liaison with other Public Information Officers and officials from federal, state, local and non-governmental organizations; respond to queries and direct questions to appropriate staff; arrange press conferences and notify media representatives of newsworthy events. Direct, supervise and evaluate the activities and performance of the Public Information Officer I located in Las Vegas.

This position will evaluate advertising and promotional materials for compatibility with public relations efforts; respond directly to media inquiries from international, national, regional and local media; plan, organize, coordinate and publicize special events to provide information regarding agency services and activities; all new regulatory requirements, traffic laws and program changes; develop Department websites and provide content management and maintenance utilizing current industry standards and concepts; coordinate and script press releases and public service announcements to promote alternate services offered by the Department; and create informational flyers, posters, brochures and videos as requested by the Department's Director and/or Deputy Director.
Develop internal and community relations publicity campaigns designed to build agency morale, community support and a positive agency image and identity; prepare agency newsletters or brochures; draft and edit articles; layout and design materials for printing; draft speeches for special audiences and attend meetings. The incumbent will monitor the contract with the outside public relations firm to be sure invoices are approved and other contractual obligations are fulfilled on the part of the public relations firm and the DMV. Develop and maintain the public communications portion of the departmental crisis disaster response plan, serve as the agency spokesperson during crisis or emergency situations.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing and presenting speeches and multimedia presentations, independent media contact, development of public relations strategies and journalistic writing; OR one year of experience as a Public Information Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Nevada driver's license. |
