The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.

This Agriculturist IV position works within the Department of Agriculture, located in Sparks, NV as the Noxious Weeds Program Manager. The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of inspection and enforcement duties related to agricultural and rangeland related programs. A primary duty of the position will be to coordinate the control of noxious weeds across the state of Nevada by working with a wide variety of partners, landowners and agencies; overseeing all aspects of the NDA noxious weed program. The incumbent will implement cooperative agreements with federal, state, and local governments; coordinate with key stakeholders in the planning and development of projects involved in plant identification and determine methods of weed control in landscape, agricultural and range settings and monitor program results. It is preferred that candidates have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with staff, producers, political and legal representatives, and the public. This position will also participate and develop workshops and trainings related to weed management and rangeland health. This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and three years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, and agricultural produce grading; OR two years of experience as an Agriculturist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
    This position has a 50% travel requirement.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience in identifying noxious weeds and experience and expertise in integrated pest management and invasive plant control methods.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
