The Position
Statisticians gather statistical and other data and perform routine analysis and computations; compile reports and prepare charts, graphs, maps and diagrams to display the data and analysis.

This position works within Division of Industrial Relations' Henderson office, for the Nevada Bureau of Labor Statistics unit. This position is responsible for the collection of Nevada's annual Survey of Occupational Injury and Illness (SOII) data for the Division and as mandated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) grant, follows all guidelines and adheres to strict confidentiality as outlined by the BLS and the Division. This position will also assist in the collection of source documents for the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI), also mandated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The incumbent will be collecting data over the phone and clarifying accuracy; guiding survey respondents through complex calculations over the phone; generate ad hoc reports on an as needed basis; and creating charts, graphs, and reports for website. Some local travel in a State vehicle and travelling to attend the annual National Training Conference is required. This Statistician 1 position underfills a Statistician 2 and may be automatically progressed upon the approval the appointing authority and when minimum qualifications of the higher level have been met. Recruitment may close early if a sufficient number of applications have been received.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience assisting in the preparation, collection and analysis of data and preparing visual displays using computer software; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
STATISTICIAN I (07.747) Written Exam
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.

30 - Written Communications and Reading Comprehension
