The Position
Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Works as a temporary employee for the Department of Transportation in a student capacity. Vacancies are located in Reno, Carson City, Elko, Ely, Winnemucca, Tonopah, and Las Vegas. The emphasis of the summer internship program is civil engineering. However, there may be openings for students from other disciplines, such as Environmental Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Structural Engineering, Hydraulics, Biology, Archaeology, Surveying, Project Management, Urban/City Planning, Cartography, Landscape Architecture, GIS, Information Technology, Business Administration, and Human Resources. This recruitment is for students at the graduate level. Program duration is from May 23, 2016, to August 26, 2016. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree related to the field of employment and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.
Special Notes
    Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    A copy of your transcripts showing current enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university in the desired field of study must be attached to your application at the time of submittal. Failure to attach your transcripts will result in the denial of your application.
