Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) District 3 Maintenance, in Winnemucca, NV. The incumbent repairs and maintains all gasoline and diesel equipment; and repairs and maintains electrical, cooling, hydraulic, transmission, drive line differential, and brake systems. Duties also include designing, fabricating, and welding mechanical apparatus; and performing emergency repairs.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A valid Class A or B Nevada commercial driver's license is required within six months of the date of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
Incumbent is required to furnish their own mechanic's tools. |

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. |
