The Position
This position is located within District III, Winnemucca. This position instructs new hire employees and permanent employees in safe operations on a wide variety of highway equipment, safety and preventative maintenance of equipment, and also traffic control, flagging procedures, and hazardous communications. They assist employees in securing C.D.L through classroom instruction and driving skills; investigate vehicle and injury accidents; conduct safety inspections of maintenance stations, work zones and equipment; maintain records on employees' equipment certification and training records; coordinate training schedules with district personnel; and inspect fire protection equipment, monitor safety and health hazards. The position reviews audiovisual training aids and written materials supplied by manufactures for applicability to current training curriculum; and performs instruction on non-equipment classes. This position also assists with winter snow removal when extra manpower is needed during winter months. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience operating a variety of complex highway construction and maintenance equipment; OR three years of experience as Highway Maintenance Worker III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid Class A or B commercial driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law required random testing for controlled substances during employment.

The Examination

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR INSTRUCTOR (09.201) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Do you have certification on any equipment?
2) Describe your experience instructing others in equipment operations and maintenance either as an instructor or designated certified operator/task trainer.
3) Describe your experience with any instruction/training you have provided to adults and include the subject matter presented.
4) List any relevant advanced education, trade school courses or certifications related to the equipment operations or road maintenance that have been obtained.
5) Describe your experience with industrial and/or construction related equipment safety experience, including being a member of a designated safety committee.
