The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
-- The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 3 in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This full-time position is open to CURRENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES working within a Nevada System of Higher Education academic institution (UNR, TMCC, WNC, GBC, DRI, UNLV, NSC, CSN, NSHE System Administration) with at least 6 months of continuous, full-time equivalent employment. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and processing all department travel requests and claims, as well as assisting in making travel arrangements for faculty students and visiting professionals; coordinating and planning department meetings, retreats, board meetings, and special events; preparing employment contracts and associated documentation for graduate and undergraduate students; preparing undergraduate and hourly payroll; coordinating graduate program admissions including maintaining a database of graduate program applicants, using PeopleSoft/MyNevada to determine eligibility, and submitting admissions decisions; preparing class schedules and processing changes, additions, and deletions to class schedules as needed; maintaining student files and assisting students and faculty with academic transactions; compiling data from student evaluations of faculty performance and preparing reports as needed; and other duties as assigned.
-- The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires experience completing hiring paperwork and personnel contracts, and completing payroll documents on behalf of other employees.
    This position requires experience preparing and processing travel request forms and travel claim forms on behalf of other employees.
The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
