The Position
Custodial Workers perform general cleaning services to State facilities using various cleaning equipment and materials to provide a safe, hygienic and orderly work environment.
-- Great Basin College is recruiting for a Custodial Worker 2 for the Buildings and Grounds department located in Elko, NV. The incumbent will be responsible for cleaning facilities, emptying garbage cans, shampooing and buffing floors; repairing and maintaining janitorial equipment; making minor repairs to plumbing fixtures; assisting with grounds maintenance such as fertilizing landscaping, snow removal, and painting; and other duties as assigned.
-- The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 4:00 am to 12:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR six months as a Custodial Worker I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires experience using janitorial machinery and equipment, such as low-speed buffers, burnishers, industrial carpet shampooers, and similar equipment.
    This position requires experience and knowledge in the handling of potentially harmful chemicals.
    This position will require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs, pushing 90+ pounds, and working outside in inclement weather.
    This position requires working in Elko, Nevada.
