The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Mental Health Counselors provide group, family, couple, and individual therapy to clients of all ages; and targeted case management services while ensuring that delivered services are consistent with State and 3rd Party Standards of Care. Mental Health Counselors conduct triage, screenings and Intake Assessments with accompanying evaluation documents. They also conduct and maintain eligibility determinations and prior authorizations as required, as well as develop, implement, and maintain Treatment Plans; perform discharge and aftercare planning; and participate in Multidisciplinary Treatment Teams (MDT) when needed. Mental Health Counselors provide emergency/crisis services, and complete required documentation for voluntary/involuntary hospitalization as needed. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work as a clinical intern, with an understanding of confidentiality and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPAA), and are in the process of qualifying for a Nevada State license as an LCSW, CPC or MFT which has been approved by the clinician's specific Board. This position requires basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft products including Word/Excel/Outlook, and an ability to learn and master electronic clinical information systems including the State's AVATAR computerized Client Charting System. This position is located at Elko Counseling and Supportive Services (ECSS) in Elko, Nevada. The mission of ECSS is to provide healing support for consumers diagnosed with a mental health disorder. ECSS provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, dedication, and genuine positive regard for both clients and staff.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
