The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
This class series encompasses positions that perform a broad range of professional and technical work involving but not limited to: cultural/natural resource assessment, programming, funding, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education, planning, mitigation and recovery.
Incumbent performs and supervises cultural resource field surveys and writes comprehensive cultural resources research reports involving large and complex projects that ensure compliance with federal and state cultural resource guidelines. Incumbents apply a variety of professional and advanced technical knowledge, skills, methods and practices in performing work for compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, Section 106 and other related federal regulations with historic preservation law. The incumbent will also conduct research and reference work, collect, arrange, and record cultural resources information, perform public outreach, make formal presentations and prepare grant applications. The incumbent will be performing these duties at the supervisory level.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, architectural history, historical preservation, art history, archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field; and three years experience performing professional archaeological field studies which involved Archaeological program research planning, compliance, enforcement and technical support, of which one year involved on-site supervision with responsibility for quality of field operations and data gathering; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, architectural history, historical preservation, art history, archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field; and four years experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Cultural/Natural Resource Specialist II in Nevada State service.

Applicants' professional qualifications must meet federal and State requirement to manage cultural/natural resource programs and/or to receive the Principal Investigator designation.
The Examination
CULTURAL/NATURAL RESOURCE SPECIALIST 3 - 07.856 Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Please describe your experience with Nevada, and U.S. culture, history and prehistory with an emphasis on the Great Basin.
2) Describe your experience with the National Historic Preservation Act and comprehensive Section 106 reporting including site testing and analysis to meet Federal and State requirements.
3) Describe your on-site supervision of cultural/natural resource projects such as archaeological or architectural projects.
4) Describe your experience using Geographic Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems equipment and software during archaeological work.
5) Describe your experience, including the number of years, conducting archaeological and/or architectural field survey work.
