The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services - Rural Regional Center in Carson City, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers, and is a great place to work. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. Applicants must have a working knowledge of theories and principles of counseling and psychotherapy; symptoms, characteristics and treatment of mental illness, intellectual disability, and emotional/behavioral disorders; crisis intervention techniques; treatment team dynamics; psychometric testing procedures and psychological testing instruments; and ethical standards of care. Primary duties of the position include but are not limited to: determination of Regional Center eligibility in adherence with federal and state guidelines; performing psychological evaluations and providing written reports of findings as required by Nevada Medicaid Waiver; providing psychological and behavioral consultations to families and professional caregivers; providing individual, family and group treatment or psycho-educational programs to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who have co-occurring emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric problems.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Must have training and experience in administering, scoring and interpreting psychological tests of intelligence, adaptive functioning and psychopathology.
    Must have experience writing comprehensive evaluations reports.
    Must have experience in making eligibility decisions by reviewing application packet materials, including diagnostic evaluations by other clinicians.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
