The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking an IT Professional III to join our Information Management Services team located in Carson City, NV . This position is responsible for application maintenance and development of the UNITY (Unified Nevada Information Technology for Youth) system which is the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) for Nevada. It is used to record foster care, adoption, child protective services, licensing, and other Child Welfare activities. UNITY is used statewide by approximately 1,600 staff and has been operational since 2003. In 2004 UNITY was awarded a Computerworld Honor for Excellence. The position may serve as a technical lead, project lead and/or supervisor for the application development team. The position will be responsible for performing all aspects of application development using .net technology and may be required to learn the legacy system as well (CA Gen). The incumbent will be expected to lead, mentor and coach subordinate staff to assist in the overall development of the application development team. This position will require communication with users, policy staff, business process analysts, trainers as well as with management. Communication skills are an essential part of the job as well as leadership and initiative.
This position is full-time with anticipated work schedule of Mon- Fri that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
