The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This position works within the Nevada Division of Insurance (DOI) office in Carson City. The DOI is charged with protecting the rights of the consumer and the public's interest in dealing with the insurance industry and is responsible for regulating the insurance industry. The division licenses insurance companies, insurance agents and producers. The selected candidate will serve as the primary IT support for the DOI and will perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas. This position will also require new development as well as project management. The incumbent will be required to define and implement solutions to a given problem that requires an individually tailored response for end-user requirements. The selected candidate must have the ability to program in a web-based programming language (e.g. java, C#, etc.), administering databases, develop written requirements for proposed applications; develop and present applications training materials to users, conduct user acceptance training, and possess knowledge of the necessary interfaces to the computer operating system. The incumbent will be required to support existing applications and will be involved in creating new projects. This position will also be responsible for providing information technology support including personal computers and mobile devices; training, testing, and documenting for users; troubleshooting and issue resolution; preparation and management of system specifications and enhancement; as well as re-engineering business processes through research and deployment of new technologies.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience in Information Technology Project Management is required.
    Experience analyzing, designing, developing, testing and/or implementing software solutions is required.
    Experience with database products, for example, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Oracle, MySQL, etc. is required.
    Experience supporting enterprise software applications (defined as software that meets the needs of an entire organization's operation, rather than that of an individual users) is required.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
