The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
This position is within the Long Term Support Services (LTSS) Unit of the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) in Carson City, NV. LTSS supports individuals who need ongoing care due to age, physical or intellectual disability or chronic illness. This position is responsible for the administration and oversight of multiple programs including Nursing Facilities, Intermediate Care Facilities, and Hospice. Functions include developing and updating Medicaid policy based on best practices and federal and state statutes, performing trend analysis on specific programs, and ensuring federal compliance. In addition, the incumbent will also serve as a trainer and/or liaison to stakeholders including providers, constituents, and members of the Legislature. A degree or certification in healthcare administration, gerontology, psychology, nursing, health care studies, and/or medical insurance billing and/or coding is preferred.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    This position requires 25% travel statewide.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Applicants must have experience in an institutional or long term care settings to include one or more of the following: Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR), Level of Care Assessments (LOC), discharge or placement coordination, Minimum Data Set (MDS, policy writing, long term care or hospital administration, patient liability, patient trust funds, or institutional billing.
