Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors, pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power generators.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform all of the duties described in the series concept and either:
1) in a correctional environment, function as a leadworker for inmate crews on a regular and recurring basis, document inmate performance through completion of periodic performance reports and are responsible for implementing security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools, and equipment; or
2) serve as a leadworker for skilled Heat Plant Specialist II's by assigning and reviewing work and providing training and input to work performance evaluations; or
3) supervise semi-skilled and/or unskilled staff to include providing orientation and training, assigning, reviewing work, and conducting performance evaluations.
Positions in this class are distinguished from those at the lower levels by the supervision or leadworker responsibilities that require judgment and decisions of a supervisory nature and by the independence with which duties are performed. At this level, incumbents also provide budget input as well as technical expertise and assistance to higher-level staff in determining future plant operation needs.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a recognized heat plant apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience as a heat plant specialist; OR one year of experience as a Heat Plant Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Will work directly with inmates. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
