The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This position works within the Department of Education, Division of Assessment, Data systems and Accountability Management (ADAM) located in Carson City, NV. Primary responsibilities for this position include Administering the Nevada Pre-K to Workforce Reporting System (NPWR). These duties include performing database performance tuning, writing queries to extract and load data, developing reports to support the State's educational research agenda and working with vendors to maintain and update the system. The incumbent is also tasked with assisting in the maintenance and development of the Student Accountability and Information Network (SAIN); maintain Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, develop and maintain database back-up and recovery schemas, fulfill public and Department data requests, develop accountability reports and performance dashboards that align with Department goals and objectives. Please note that the incumbent is subject to work with multiple vendors, State agencies and external education entities and may be required to coordinate cross agency projects.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

    A valid State of Nevada Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment.

Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with SQL as a developer or administrator.
