Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Incumbent will be responsible for providing inmates various re-entry programs designed to develop necessary re-entry life skills for integration into society. The incumbent is required to carry out responsibilities related to "transitional programs," i.e., resume writing, interview skills, dress for success, etc., will work with local employers to develop job partnerships, equipping inmates with a skill set that allows them to compete and have success in the community; and teaches adult life skills or job readiness.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university in public administration or a related field and one year of previous experience in planning, coordinating or administering a program; OR one year experience as a Program Officer I in Nevada State service; OR graduation from high school or the equivalent and five years of previous experience in planning, coordinating or administering a program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience in re-entry programs (i.e., workforce development, transition assistance, job skills, education, etc.), is required.
The Examination

PROGRAM OFFICER II
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience in workforce development and transitional programs to include:
A) pre-release interviews with inmates
B) conducting presentations and/or on-site visits to explain re-entry program
mission, objectives and core principles
C) developing individual correctional plans for inmates
2) Detail your experience working in a correctional environment in the following capacity:
A) custody staff
B) non-custody staff
C) parole & probation officer
3) Detail your experience in the following areas:
A) ensuring compliance with existing procedures, and developing and
implementing new policies and procedures
B) developing quantifiable goals and measuring outcomes specific to goal
attainment
C) developing quantitative and qualitative evidence based goals and tracking
systems
4) Detail your experience in the following areas:
A) compiling data and preparing reports of re-entry program activities to justify
budget requests; identify problem areas; recommend solutions; and analyze
program success.
B) assisting in the monitoring, tracking and recording of expenditures related to
budget and/or grant monies.
