The Position
Plumbers perform skilled plumbing work to maintain and repair plumbing systems, fixtures and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of UNLV's plumbing systems while promoting overall professionalism, efficiency and thoroughness of the Plumbing Shop. Respond to repair orders; establish priority of repairs; diagnose problems utilizing appropriate tools and test equipment; estimate cost of jobs; acquire materials to complete a job by contacting vendors and/or completing a purchase requisition; make necessary repairs; and document time and material costs for billing purposes. Perform preventive maintenance such as conducting routine inspections, cleaning and servicing, and making adjustments and minor repairs to prevent malfunction and prolong the life of equipment, systems, and structures. Install equipment and systems in accordance with the plumbing code; review blueprints; design and lay out plumbing systems; cut and thread, weld or solder pipes; assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes; inspect for leakage; and install sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, backflow devices and other fixtures. Troubleshoot, maintain and repair plumbing systems; open clogged drains; replace broken lines; maintain and repair heating and associated lines; and repair or replace pumps, valves, low pressure systems, fixtures and components to ensure system and fixtures are in proper working order. Assist contractors by providing information regarding the existing structure, equipment, systems and required modification; and review bids and work completed by contractors for quality and conformance with specifications and codes as assigned. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. EEO/AA/Vet/Disability Employer.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Skills Required
    Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years of skilled work in a trade under the supervision of a journey level trades worker.
    In order to receive proper credit for college courses or technical school and/or journey level experience, please provide a photo copy of appropriate proof i.e. college transcript, certificate of completion.
    Applicants must attach a copy of journeyman card.
    A valid Nevada class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
    As a contingency of employment, the chosen candidate must receive within one year of hire date, and maintain throughout employment, Asbestos Abatement Worker Certification.
    As a contingency of employment, the chosen candidate must receive within one year of hire date, and maintain throughout employment, the State of Nevada Certified Backflow Tester Certification.
