The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs. The selected candidate for this position will be required to exercise fair, consistent, and unbiased application of all relevant policies and regulations; be required to possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with minimal supervision; and required to be flexible in performing other job duties as assigned. This position will analyze, interpret and apply Federal, State and Division regulations to assure an opportunity for a Fair Hearing and due process for any recipient or provider who makes such a request; will review Fair Hearing request to determine accuracy, completeness and determine if adverse action is supported by policy; respond to recipient, provider, and/or legal representative inquiries; schedule and conduct Hearing Preparation Meetings within required timeframes; schedule Fair Hearings with the Department of Administration Appeals Office within required timeframes; coordinate witnesses from Division Program staff, Medicaid fiscal agent, Managed Care Organizations and other State agency staff; and schedule , provide appropriate documents and prepare the Deputy Attorney General to represent the Division at Fair Hearings. Additionally, this position will assign and coordinate work functions and processes with Administrative Assistant staff, coordinate with DHCFP Program Specialists for data system claims programming problems, errors and identify inconsistencies; coordinate and direct fiscal agent staff to correct claims and authorization errors, problems and inconsistencies, as identified; and maintain compliance with all Federal HIPPA regulations.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing social services to clients or program development and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing medical assistance programs services or healthcare services to clients or program compliance and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    The ability to travel at least 25% of the time is required.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
