The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Primary duties include: 1) Perform plumbing work to maintain, repair and modify plumbing systems and fixtures. Install and repair valves and fixtures, and open clogged drains; 2) Perform carpentry in order to maintain, repair and modify facilities and fixtures. Install and repair locks, make keys and install venetian blinds. May construct special features or objects as requested. 3) Perform interior painting work such as taping and texturing sheetrock, patching sheetrock and masonry surfaces and applying paint with brushes, rollers and airless spray equipment. 4) Perform electrical work; install new parts in defective equipment; replace ballasts on 120, 227 and 480 volt fixtures, adjusting and cleaning electronic controls, etc. 5) Perform equipment maintenance and repair work in order to maintain building and grounds equipment in proper working order. 6) Must have a working knowledge of local, state and federal codes and regulations and know how to look up unknown regulations. 7) Supervision and training: Will supervise the work of two Maintenance Repair Worker 2s; Will review completed work by contractors; responsible for equipment training for other team members. 8) Will comply with all OSHA, Federal, ADA, UBC, NEC and EPA rules and regulations and be knowledgeable with all safety literature such as MSDS product labels and equipment owner's manuals.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
    This position is subject to standby and call back status.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. Duties will include working on complex electrical control systems where differentiation between wire coloring and shades of coloring is critical for safety.
    Must be able to detect odors or smells. Duties will include be working in areas where detection of odors indicating gas leaks or shorts in electrical wiring is critical for safety.
    Must be able to work at elevated levels; e.g., on a roof, ladder, manlift and scaffolding. Duties will include repair and preventive maintenance in every area of facility.
    Must be able and willing to wear safety equipment; e.g., safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, etc. Working safely is an essential function.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
