The Position
Game Wardens protect the wildlife and fisheries resources of the State and the public by enforcing wildlife, boating and natural resource laws and by providing education in areas such as wildlife management, and hunter, boating and firearms safety.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Incumbent serves as first-line supervisor for Nevada State Game Wardens in the Western Region. The incumbent ensures officers are properly trained, and supervises and evaluates performance of assigned officers; assigns and reviews work; and initiates disciplinary action along with conducts and reviews investigations with wildlife and boating safety. This position will also oversee the budget for the Western Region.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology, criminal justice or closely related field and four years of professional experience in enforcing wildlife and/or boating safety laws; OR one year of experience as a Game Warden III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Candidates hired in this series must acquire Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification in Nevada.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A background investigation is required prior to being considered for appointment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Successful completion of a medical examination; physical agility test; psychological test and evaluation, which will include polygraph testing; and a background investigation are required at the time of appointment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    For insurance purposes and home storage of state vehicles, employee must reside in the State of Nevada at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
Game Warden IV
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

5) Describe your experience presenting wildlife information to the following: a) schools; b) game boards; and c) general public.
6) Describe your experience monitoring establishments selling State hunting/fishing licenses.
7) Describe your experience conducting background investigations.
8) Describe your experience investigating applicants for special licenses and permits for the following: a) captive wildlife; b) marine events; c) falconry; d) hunting preserves; e) pet shops; f) guides; g) taxidermists; h) wildlife breeders; and i) dog trainers.
9) Describe your experience presenting formal trainings.
10) Describe your experience assisting in wildlife and fisheries surveys.
11) Describe your experience with the use of sonar and/or scuba diving equipment.
