Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This position will be responsible for implementing various aspects of the Public Safety Departmental Information Security Program, working with liaisons from each DPS division to ensure participation and involvement with department information security goals and compliance with state information security standards. This position will also perform an assessment of each DPS site. The Departmental Information Security Program is new; this position will work with the DPS Departmental Information Security Officer and together they will work on the evolution of areas of focus and techniques used to accomplish the program goals. This position will be responsible for developing training content and may present training information to moderate sized groups. Performing the duties of this position will require frequent day trips for the purpose of site evaluations and meetings with division liaisons. There will be occasional overnight travel in-state for the purpose of site evaluations, meetings, and training. There will be rare instances of out of state travel for the purpose of training and professional development. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc., (ISC2) - Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP_ is equivalent to three years of experience. |

Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) - Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) is equivalent to two years of experience. |
|
Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) - Security Expert is equivalent to two years of experience. |
|
Other nationally recognized information security certifications may be substituted for up to one year of experience. |

Nevada Information Security Professional (NISP) or CISSP certification must be obtained within 12 months of appointment and maintained as a condition of continuing employment. |
