The Position
Community Based Instructors conduct a variety of outreach educational programs to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings, which may include schools, civic and senior centers, camps and other meeting facilities.
-- The University of Nevada Reno's Cooperative Extension is recruiting for a Community Based Instructor 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching the Little Books & Little Cooks program curriculum lessons for parents of young children, with a focus on low-income families, at various CCSD family engagement centers, library branches, Head Start sites, city and county recreation centers, as well as other community sites. This position will also coordinate program scheduling and recruitment, assist with various evaluation methods and data entry, recruit and oversee in-class parent volunteers, participate in community family events, and other duties as assigned.
-- This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The work schedule is variable, which may include evenings and weekends; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.
    This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
    This position requires travelling to various locations around the Las Vegas area, to include hauling supplies and materials and traveling in all weather conditions.
    This position requires working a variable work schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.
    This position requires professional experience teaching adult and child learners, and working with parents and young children.
    This position requires advanced knowledge of family literacy, parenting, and child development.
    This position requires experience in recruiting and marketing to an audience to solicit participation.
