Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
As the manager of the Independent Living Program the incumbent will manage critical service programs for individuals with disabilities and special healthcare needs; including but not limited to Traumatic Brain Injury, Assistive Technology and Independent Living services. The incumbent will staff Governor appointed committees designed to promote the rights of and service access for persons with disabilities. The position holder should be experienced in preparing, communicating and/or presenting complex information and recommendations to public forums, advisory bodies or legislative committees. Additionally, the incumbent ensures programs operate within federal and state guidelines, that policies and procedures are in place and assures that data is compiled and analyzed for appropriate program effectiveness and budgeting.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

This position requires 25% travel statewide. |

Experience administering grants including evaluation of budgets, monitoring expenditures, providing technical assistance and monitoring and evaluating program activities and outcomes. |

Experience preparing, communicating and/or presenting complex information and recommendations to public forums, advisory bodies or legislative committees. |
|
Experience compiling and computing data for utilization in program planning and in determining program effectiveness. |
