Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The incumbent in this position is responsible for rangeland ecology and resource management of agriculture programs related to livestock grazing and its impact on wildlife habitat and rangeland health. Duties include research on issues and concerns, planning and policy development, working extensively with representatives from local, state and federal government agencies, community organizations and businesses, and the general public. Duties also include supervision of staff in the performance of inspection and enforcement duties in rangeland ecology and resource management, seed testing and certification, and invasive plant and noxious weed evaluation and management, as well as ensuring compliance with State and federal statutes or eligibility for certification.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and three years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, and agricultural produce grading; OR two years of experience as an Agriculturist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
This position has a 50% travel requirement.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience in rangeland ecology and resource management related to livestock grazing and its impact on wildlife habitat and rangeland health is required.
