JOB INFORMATION

Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Psychiatric Nurse II will be assigned to the Forensic Mental Health Team at Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services in Sparks, NV. This team provides intensive community-based treatment for adults with severe mental illness who have recently been involved in the legal system and inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Must have knowledge of the legal system and have the ability to effectively work with a multidisciplinary team, including: police, first responders, attorneys, judges, parole & probation. Duties will include providing psychiatric medication management and education, coordinating integrated primary health care, administering injections, and coordinating care with community providers. Applicants must be able to submit to and meet criteria for background check at Washoe County Detention Center. This position may require working evenings, weekends and holidays.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
