The Position
Staff Research Associates perform or supervise the performance of laboratory and/or field experimental procedures in support of academically-supervised research and teaching in the natural, physical, or social sciences.
--The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Staff Research Associate 3 for the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology department. The incumbent will conduct research in a plant functional genomics research laboratory in which biochemical and molecular biological techniques are being used to investigate the systems biology of Crassulacean Acid metabolism plants such as Agave, Opuntia, and Kalanchoe. Major duties will include routine preparation of nucleic acids, performance and interpretation of high-throughput data sets derived from CAM species, and transformed CAM species to elucidate transcriptional, proteomic, and metabolomic changes in expression patterns. The incumbent will also develop new techniques in the lab, such as chromatin-immunoprecipitation RNA-Seq experiments and be heavily involved in analyzing and performing biological interpretation of these data sets. Additional duties will include providing training and oversight of various laboratory personnel, including technicians, graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and visiting scientists, as well as tracking of research progress, scheduling of meetings, and collating data for quarterly and annual reporting needs.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and two years of professional experience in a research laboratory; OR one year of experience as a Staff Research Associate II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.

    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
