The Position
Compliance/Enforcement Investigators perform investigative and enforcement functions to monitor compliance and enforce State and/or federal laws or regulations pertaining to a specific program or regulatory area.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located within the Department of Business & Industry, Nevada Transportation Authority, Enforcement Unit. The position?s primary work location is in Las Vegas and may include statewide travel. The position will represent the Nevada Transportation Authority at meetings and hearings. The position is responsible for supervising and conducting investigations and inspections, in addition to reviewing case assignment to enforcement staff; will conduct and supervise regular patrol and covert surveillance operations. Supervision of enforcement staff as assigned, which includes conducting performance evaluations and handling employee discipline matters, as appropriate. The selected candidate will be required to attend and maintain supervisory training per NAC 284.498, Nevada P.O.S.T. and this agency.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from a Category II peace officer academy approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police science, psychology, business administration or closely related field; and three years of professional investigative, law enforcement, or program related experience where standard investigative and enforcement techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations, enforcement of state and federal laws, preparation of detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or comparable setting; OR graduation from a Category II peace officer academy approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training; graduation from high school or equivalent education; and five years of experience as outlined above; OR one year of experience as a Compliance/Enforcement Investigator III in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
    Incumbents in the Compliance/Enforcement Investigator II, III, Supervisory Compliance/ Enforcement Investigator and Chief Investigator, Compliance/Enforcement classes must maintain Nevada POST Category II certification as a condition of continuing employment.
    Incumbents carry firearms in the performance of their duties and must maintain a quarterly qualifying score of 70 or better with a firearm.
    Incumbents may be required to operate an authorized emergency vehicle.
    This position requires a pre-employment background investigation as a condition of employment.
    Position may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on standby or call back status.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code, in order to attend a law enforcement academy and become P.O.S.T. certified.
    Applicants must submit to a background, medical, physical agility, polygraph and psychological evaluation prior to employment.

The Examination
SUPERVISORY COMPLIANCE/ENFORCE INVESTIGATOR (13.255)
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe in detail your program management experience in performing or supervising the performance of investigative and enforcement functions.
2) Explain in detail your experience supervising employees (i.e. case assignment, training, performance evaluations, etc.). Please include the titles of staff supervised.
3) Identify your experience in training related to developing, implementing, reviewing and/or approving training initiatives to ensure compliance with program goals.
4) Describe your experience directing specialized investigations and actions and experience dealing with sensitive, high profile or difficult cases. Include any surveillance and/or covert activities and any experience testifying in court proceedings.
