The Position
Information Technology (IT) Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the IT activities, in one or more IT specialization areas, of the State, a department, or a division.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located within the Traffic Operations Division, Carson City. Incumbent functions as the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Network and Radio Manager who trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of subordinates; develops policies and procedures; and allocates staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Under administrative direction, the Technology Manager, monitors and enforces all federal, State laws, and regulations relating to the State Land Mobile Radio System and ensures the ITS Network is operating within department and industry standards, various radio and ITS projects, for program management, systems engineering, field installation and financial support functions. Oversees installation, repair, and development of radio communications systems and equipment, fixed base stations, computer and associated peripheral equipment; provides technical assistance in radio based communications systems use, long range planning and impact on other communication entities; ensures accurate record keeping of communications activities; and researches and develops radio based communication activities and peripheral equipment, and maintains current UTA and FCC licenses. Supervise the implementation and maintenance of the ITS network, systems, databases, applications, and/or information security. May perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the Technology Section. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and six years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which involved strategic planning, project management, quality assurance, and computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, or applications analysis and development. Three years of this experience must have been in a supervisory or project manager capacity; OR one year of experience as an IT Manager I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Statewide travel is required.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with the operations and maintenance of a Land Mobile Radio Systems.
