JOB INFORMATION

Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
Nevada Early Intervention Services in the Aging and Disability Services Division located in Las Vegas, NV has multiple vacancies in the Developmental Specialist classification. This recruitment will be used to fill these multiple positions within the agency. This position provides specialized instruction and case management services to twenty-five children under the age of three with disabilities (including autism, vision and hearing impairments, genetics syndromes and prematurity) under the federal regulations of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004. Also serves on multi-disciplinary teams to determine program eligibility and services. Experience working with children birth to five years old with developmental delays is a requirement of this position.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field and one year of professional experience providing developmental, special education, intervention or treatment-oriented services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions; OR one year of experience as a Developmental Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a bachelor's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Incumbents must possess or obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.)
