The Position
Family Support Workers provide in-home assistance and instruction to clients and their families regarding homemaking skills including preparation of healthy and nutritious meals, and basic personal care and hygiene as necessary for the health and well-being of the client and other members of the household.
-- The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Family Support Worker 3 for the Child & Family Research Center. The position functions as a home visitor for the Early Head Start Program. Duties include planning, scheduling and conducting weekly visits to the homes of Early Head Start clients; maintaining records and documenting the visits, any referrals, and services offered or provided. The incumbent will also develop individualized family partnership agreements to asses family strengths and develop action plans to meet identified goals; create community linkages for family development and support services; and refer families to identified needed services. This position will promote the involvement of parents in their child's development, in the EHS program and in their community life. This position will also assist pregnant women and fathers in participating in parent education and birth preparation classes. Home visiting requires skill in assessing the safety and appropriateness of the environment for both the employee and any children. Incumbents must report suspected child abuse, spousal abuse and substance abuse. Incumbents must be able to judge varying situations and ensure they are performing their work only when it is safe to do so. Duties will require lifting and carrying children up to 50 lbs., and local driving.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday a variable work schedule from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of family support experience including homemaking, and providing care to children and/or the ill, disabled and aged; OR one year of experience as a Family Support Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Incumbent is required to pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.
    This position requires formal education or work experience in Early Childhood Education.
    This position requires experience working with children from birth to 3 years of age in a business setting.
    The duties of this position require the incumbent to conduct home visits to Early Head Start clients.
    The person hired must have own vehicle to complete home visit duties.
    This position requires lifting and carrying children weighing up to 50 pounds.
    This position will work with English and Spanish speaking clients.
