Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

This position is located within the Environmental Services Division, Biology Section, in beautiful rural District III (Elko or Ely.) The incumbent will conduct biological field surveys, research and investigations to identify biological resources present within or near a project; prepare reports and assessments, monitor construction activities, develop suitable mitigation to address impacts, and ensure compliance with permits and other biological commitments; and secure State and federal permits in conformance with the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position requires in-state travel up to 50% of the time.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work experience identifying Great Basin or Intermountain West plants and animals is required for this position. |
|
Work experience with federal and State threatened/endangered species, or noxious weed identification/management, or wetlands survey/delineations is required for this position. |
|
Work experience preparing biological resource or NEPA documents is required. |
