The Position
Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Perform maintenance, repairs, adjustments, calibration, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and installation of direct digital controls on new and existing campus DDC, building automation and energy management systems. Determine if and how building mechanical systems are operating; which may include energy use, laboratory pressurization/safety, air exchange rate, ventilation, humidity control, and other factors critical to providing a comfortable and safe learning environment. Responder for campus heating, cooling, sump pump, booster pump, lighting, alarm, and access issues; providing technical guidance and resolution to DDC, building automation and related issues. Provide timely response to diagnose source of customer concerns, analyze system requirements, test components, and recommend corrective action, including on-call and emergency support as required. Read, understand and interpret technical and construction related documents (i.e. drawings, technical manuals and specifications) in order to determine appropriate equipment and materials required and proper methods of repair or installation. Ensure proper software setup, programming and communication with servers. Perform point-to-point system check outs and participates in new and renovated system startups. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. EEO/AA/Vet/Disability Employer.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
    Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years of skilled work in a trade under the supervision of a journey level trades worker.
Special Requirements
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires specialized training in DDC Controls equipment and experience reading and interpreting blueprints for buildings and facilities. This experience must be detailed on your application materials.
    As a contingency of employment, the chosen candidate must receive Asbestos Abatement Certification within one year of hire date and perform asbestos related work as required.
