Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Under the general direction of the Emission Control Program Officer, the Supervising Emission Control Officer is responsible for the supervision of the Emission Control Technicians located at the Sahara DMV in Las Vegas, and the emission control program as it pertains to the licensing, training, certification and recertification of emission control stations and inspectors.
Incumbent oversees the administrative and technical affairs of the Sahara Emission Control Lab. Trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff. Ensures compliance with the regulations and policies relating to the licensing of emission control inspections stations and inspectors.
Administers the overt and covert inspections of licensed emission control stations. The review and enforcement of reports of vehicles observed to be smoking and in possible violation of air quality standards noted in the federal clean air act. Compiles monthly statistical reports, represents the department in administrative hearings, court proceedings, and participate in public relations.
This position is located in Las Vegas within the Compliance Enforcement Division/Emissions Program.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field, and two years of work experience in automotive service management or in a regulatory capacity. The experience must have included responsibility for conducting administrative or operational investigations, and for writing reports; OR three years as an Emissions Control Technician in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination

Supervising Emission Control Officer
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately.
