The Position
Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position works in the Division of Human Resource Management's Sexual Harassment/Discrimination Unit in Las Vegas, which investigates complaints made against or by State employees regarding Title VII sexual harassment and/or discrimination violations. The position is responsible for receiving, analyzing, conducting interviews in person and via telephone during normal work hours and occasionally outside of normal working hours, obtaining documentation/evidence, preparing reports of findings and development of case files. The incumbent may be required to testify before various boards, hearing officers, or other legal settings related to an investigation and may be required to teach Preventing Sexual Harassment/Discrimination classes to State employees. This position is not considered a public safety or peace officer.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, political science, psychology, social work, business administration or other discipline related to the assignment and one year of investigative experience as an investigator in a specified program area where standard investigative techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations and prepare detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in a law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or compliance setting; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Compliance Investigator I in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Work experience in one or more of the following areas: 1) conducting Sexual Harassment/discrimination investigations, 2) conducting Human Resource related investigations, 3) job function involving the use of investigative techniques.
