The Position
Building Construction Inspectors perform a variety of building construction inspections and contract administration work requiring a broad knowledge of construction principles and practices of all phases of construction including plumbing, heating, electrical, structural design, air conditioning and landscaping.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is with the State Public Works Board in Las Vegas, Nevada. Under the direction of the Building Official and in cooperation with State Public Works project managers, this position is responsible for Building Inspections. The incumbent will perform duties at journey level for all disciplines of construction for buildings and structures on State of Nevada owned property. The incumbent will ensure compliance with construction documents, all applicable codes, will perform plan review and inspections for plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility, structural design, building, and landscaping. Access to prisons requires a separate Nevada Department of Corrections background check, at no cost to the applicant.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education, current certification as a Commercial Building Inspector in at least one building construction trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical, building and mechanical) and two years of building construction inspection experience which included plumbing, electrical, building and mechanical areas and required the review and interpretation of building codes, architectural drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with contract documents; OR one year of experience as a Building Construction Inspector II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    Currently possess an ICC Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector and at least 2 certifications in the following: International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) Electrical Inspector, or ICC or IAPMO Certified Mechanical Inspector for Uniform Mechanical Code, or ICC or IAPMO Plumbing Inspector for Uniform Plumbing Code.
    Experience as a Commercial Building Inspector in a local or state jurisdiction.
    Experience with complex building inspection for commercially designed and constructed facilities.
The Examination

The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
