JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Seasonal, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Agricultural Inspectors perform sampling and inspection of agricultural products at shipping point inspection facilities, and participate in pest control and noxious weed eradication; check and grade condition of fruits and vegetables, and assist plant pathologists and entomologists in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This seasonal position works within the Department of Agriculture's Division of Plant Industry, Agriculture and Enforcement Section and is located in Sparks, NV. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of inspections on agricultural commodities and will conduct inspections for USDA phytosanitary certification and grading. Other duties may include monitoring pesticide applications; collecting plant, insect and fertilizer samples, and data base management. Please note that this position requires 50% or more of travel to agricultural production areas located in northern Nevada. Applicants must indicate their willingness to meet the travel requirement portion of this position. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or coursework in agriculture or directly related natural resources field. Please provide a copy of college transcripts. The position is temporary and may last at least six months.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in agricultural sciences or related sciences performing agriculture duties; OR one year of experience as an Agricultural Inspector I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination or education and experience.
Special Requirements
50 % Travel requirement.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
