The Position
Security Officers provide security for State buildings and occupants, enforce laws and apprehend offenders.
-- The Western Nevada College is recruiting for two part-time Security Officer positions for the Public Safety Department. All part-time assignments can be assigned to any of our campus locations; Carson City, High Tech Center, Fallon or Douglas Campus. The incumbent will be responsible for patrolling campus to enforce all laws and regulations, maintain security of buildings and ensure safety of all persons on campus by foot and vehicle patrols, enforce parking and traffic regulation and assist the public as needed. Maintain accurate records and logs of all incidents and inventory on campus, maintain certification standards for all tools and equipment used and maintain certification in first aid, CPR and weaponless defense tactics.
-- The typical work schedule is varied days and hours; this is subject to change based on organizational needs with little notice. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours including evenings, weekends and/or holidays. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    CPR certification is required within the first 90 days of employment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires working a variable work schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays and schedules are subject to change with little notice.
    First Aid certification is required within the first 90 days of employment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
    This position requires extended periods of walking or standing and exposure to inclement weather.
    Candidate will be required to complete safety training in bicycle patrol and utilize provided bicycle.
