Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

Specific duties include but are not limited to the processing of accounts payable vendor invoices, including blanket purchase orders, payment vouchers, and construction-in-progress payments; identifies and corrects any accounting errors and/or discrepancies; ensures proper recording, coding, and reporting of clerical information, audit backup of documentation for proper signature authority, appropriate use of funds, purchase order accuracy, and compliance with state and university policies and procedures; and process records for payment. The position is also responsible for resolving complex issues referred by the departmental staff and responding to and resolving difficult clerical questions and issues by conferring with professional and technical accounting personnel. Incumbent must have knowledge of accounts payable and some accounts receivable and general ledger in addition to bookkeeping skills. The successful candidate will have a commitment to service excellence, the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information into UNLV's financial system, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and be respectful and flexible. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong team building, analytical/problem solving, decision making, communication, organizational, detail orientation, and time management skills. Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and two years of financial records maintenance experience equivalent to an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service. This would include such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting. |

Transcripts of college credits are required.

Preference will be given to candidates with accounts payable experience processing a large number of invoices for a large company or university. |
