Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
All living things depend on water, yet few people recognize that water is actually a limited resource. With less than one percent of the water found on earth being drinkable freshwater, it is certainly important to maintain its quality. NDOT is looking for candidates ready to make water quality a top issue in their daily lives!
This position is located within the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT's) Stormwater Division, Carson City. Incumbents within this division will use resources and education to maintain adherence to strict environmental regulations. The mandates set forth are critical, as the success of future generations depends on adherence to the clean practices of today. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Incumbent is responsible for managing a public relations and public information program for the NDOT Stormwater Program, which includes writing media releases, answering questions from the public, conducting media interviews, and creating multimedia presentations. This position would be responsible for developing a complex public relations and public information program for NDOT's Stormwater Program; fielding media and public inquiries of a sensitive and controversial nature; serving as NDOT's Stormwater Program spokesperson; creating a stormwater outreach plan; developing a community affairs component with a speakers' bureau; creating relationships with stakeholders, and representing NDOT on multijurisdictional and multi-organizational efforts to promote storm water program initiatives.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
