The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking a Social Services Program Specialist III in our Family Programs Office located in Carson City. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.The purpose of this position is to provide statewide continuous quality assurance and improvement as it relates to child welfare abuse and neglect cases. This position ensures child welfare cases are reviewed and monitored, and corrective action is occurring if necessary. Responsibilities include statewide Continuous Quality Assurance/Improvement activities related to child welfare services cases, Statewide Policy development, Technical Assistance, Planning, Evaluation, Report Writing, and Collaboration with Child Welfare Agencies, and external Stakeholders. This position will require a 25% statewide travel for Child and Family Service Reviews. Experience in Child Welfare as it relates to child abuse and neglect, an ability to collect, monitor and analyze child welfare data and the ability to write evaluative continuous quality assurance reports is desirable.
This is a full time position with an anticipated work schedule of 8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    This position requires 25% travel statewide.
The Examination
