The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
This position is located within District II, Permits in Reno. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Duties include performing engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data and exercising judgment impacting daily operations and policy procedure implementation; processing of permit applications, design, implementation and management of District Contracts and special projects, permit and construction inspection, preparation of technical engineering memoranda and letters, regular site reviews and implementation of field changes as required, processing of contract payments and participating in post project audits, providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers, and responding to public inquiries including, media, citizen and inter-agency inquiries. This position spends approximately 10% of the working week in the field performing inspection duties.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
    Applicants for Staff I, Associate Engineer who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying are not required to take the State's written test.

The Examination
