The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
--This recruitment is for future full-time vacancies in Reno and Carson City, Nevada for the following Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Campuses: NSHE Chancellor's Office and System Computing Services; Truckee Meadows Community College; University of Nevada, Reno; and Western Nevada College. Positions will have varying job functions, schedules, and funding sources.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    Applicants must be willing to work in Reno and/or Carson City, Nevada.
The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
The following are the number of questions in each category of the exam:
20 - Office Operations and Practices
20 - Following Written Instructions & Reading Skills
10 - Arithmetic
20 - English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
15 - Computer Usage
15 - Interpersonal & Customer Service Skills
The following additional questions are part of this Recruitment
1) Applicants will be required to respond to the following questions with detailed narratives. Rather than eliminating candidates at the application stage, these narratives will be used to determine which eligible candidates will be selected for interview. Applicants who provide DETAILED responses will likely be more successful in gaining interview opportunities than those who provide limited information. Do you understand you must provide detailed narratives in the boxes below?
2) Applicants must provide a statement regarding their skills with the following software: a) Word; b) Excel; c) Database/data warehouse (e.g. Access, HRMS, Oracle, PeopleSoft); and d) other applicable software systems. Please describe the type of work you are able to produce with each software system, how you have used each system professionally, and at what places of employment you used each software system. It is recommended you label your responses A, B, C, and D for clarity.
3) Applicants must provide a statement regarding their accounting experience, including experience with electronic accounting software (e.g. CAIS, Peachtree, Advantage, QuickBooks). Please describe the accounting functions for which you have been responsible and the accounting systems you have worked in professionally (please provide the name of the system). Please name the places of employment where you performed such duties.
4) Applicants must provide a statement regarding their experience with processing travel request forms and reconciling travel claims and reimbursements on behalf of other employees in a business setting. Please name the places of employment where you performed such duties.
5) Applicants must provide a statement regarding their experience with HR processes (e.g. payroll, leave keeping, pay documents, interpretation of policy and procedures, contract development, personnel training and evaluations). Please describe the type of work you have experience with and name the place of employment where you performed such duties.
6) Applicants must indicate if they are willing to accept a position which does not afford layoff (bumping) rights. Please select one of the following choices below.
