The Position
Professional Engineer Administrators are responsible for management of an assigned district, function or division in the Department of Transportation.
This position is located within the Structural Design Division, Carson City. Incumbent administers the activities of the Structural Design Division. Duties include: establishing policies to ensure consistency in design; approving preliminary structural plans of bridges for submission to the Federal Highway Administration or for certification acceptance; providing direction and code interpretation while working with designers during the production of structural designs; contracting with consultants as required and monitoring work and designs produced by consultants to ensure compliance with consultant agreements; approving final contract plans for structures and administration of the structure construction management process by recommending approval or denial of contract change orders; certifying construction drawings and giving final approval of standard plan drawings for inclusion in the department's standard plan publication; provide technical assistance to construction personnel; and conducting on-site reviews to monitor progress and ensure proper construction. Incumbent will also be responsible for administration and oversight of the Bridge Inventory and Inspection sections within the Structural Division to assure compliance with NDOT and Federal Highway Administration policies. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and five years progressively responsible professional engineering experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity; OR one year of experience as an Administrator I, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a Manager I, P.E., or Manager II, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Any person registered as a Professional Engineer in another state must become registered as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months following the date of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.
