The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This position would be involved with the planning, request for proposal process, testing, implementation, and maintenance of a new integrated database. This position will require incumbents to support existing applications and to be involved in creating new projects individually or in a team environment. The size and scope of projects will range from small to large and complex depending on the system requirements. A primary role of this position will be to implement a computerized real-time data system to comply with the provisions of NRS 706.8825. This position will also be responsible for the following: information technology support including personal computers and mobile devices; user training, testing, and documentation; troubleshooting and issue resolution; preparation and management of system specifications and enhancement; and re-engineering business processes through research and deployment of new technologies.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.

    Working weekends and/or holidays is required.
    Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.
    A pre-employment State of Nevada FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Please describe your experience supporting the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure for an organization. In particular, the operating system(s) and the number and type of devices you supported (e.g. Personal Computers [PCs], printers/copiers, servers and switches).
2) Please describe your experience analyzing, designing, developing, testing and/or implementing software solutions. Please include the programming languages and platforms (Java, .NET, C++, C#, PHP, etc.), and type of application (i.e. function it performed, such as accounting, budgeting, inventory tracking, website, etc.). Also, please describe your role(s) on the project(s).
3) Please describe your experience with database products, for example, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Oracle, MySQL, etc. Please also include experience with Structured Query Language (SQL).
4) Please describe your experience supporting enterprise software applications (defined as software that meets the needs of an entire organization's operation, rather than that of an individual users). Please include a description of the software and your support role.
5) Have you had a lead role on any IT Projects? If so, please describe your role and what you were responsible for.
