The Position
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Located in Las Vegas, this position coordinates and manages the Wildlife Education Program in the agency's Southern Region. Plans and conducts educational programs or workshops for youth and adult audiences throughout the region, recruits and trains volunteer instructors to assist with product delivery, and writes news releases, articles, brochures and other informative materials. Educational programs and workshops will sometimes take place in outdoor settings and remote locations. In addition, the incumbent assists with the regional public affairs program, photography and video production, and other Conservation Education programs as needed and assists with development of the regional Wildlife Education budget.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and one year of professional experience in conservation education which included presenting educational programs, preparing educational plans, writing news releases, developing written materials for publication, and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Conservation Educator I in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.

    Microsoft Office Suite - Intermediate Level
    Photo/video equipment and editing software - Beginner
    Audio Visual Equipment - Beginner Level
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
