The Position
Pilots fly missions and aircraft which vary with the department to which the position is assigned. Pilots must maintain current certification to fly agency aircraft which may include jets, turboprop single- and/or multi-engine airplanes, rotorcraft helicopter or other equipment owned or leased by the agency.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is for the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Primary flying duties will be in rotorcraft helicopter assisting Department staff in conducting wildlife survey activities. These activities require flying for extended periods at high and/or low altitudes, over mountainous and variable terrain and with obscured visibility resulting from weather condition and fires. Position may assist the Division of Forestry in fire suppression. Participation in training and recertification activities to maintain ratings required to pilot assigned aircraft will be necessary. This position requires rotor-craft helicopter experience, as well as a preferred experience with fixed-wing aircraft. The Department owns and operates two Bell Jet Ranger 206 BIII and a Cessna Turbo 206.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school, or equivalent education, and 3,500 hours logged, pilot-in-command total rotorcraft or fixed-wing and/or single-engine aircraft flight time, as designated by the agency at the time of recruitment. Flight experience must include 250 hours low-level flight; 250 hours conducting external load operations; 500 hours mountain flying above 5,000 feet mean sea level; and 100 hours of flight time within the preceding 12 months.
Special Notes
    Incumbents may be required to acquire United States Forest Service lead plane certification within twelve months of the date of appointment.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid second class medical certificate issued by an authorized FAA medical examiner is required.
    A valid commercial pilot certificate with rotorcraft helicopter rating including instrument rating or fix-wing multi-engine and/or single-engine land rating, including instrument rating issued by the FAA is required.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires 2,000 hours logged in rotorcraft helicopter.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Do you hold an A) Airframe & Powerplant Certification issued by the FAA, or, B) an FAA Inspection Authorization? Please indicate which you hold and if it is current.

3) Describe your 3,500 hours of Pilot in Command flight time experience in a rotorcraft. Include in the description of your experience, the type of rotorcraft, total PIC hours, and which employer(s) the experience was obtained. Credit will only be given if the employer is currently listed on your application within your employment history. **Your PIC flight log, identifying your 3,500 ours of logged flight time, but be attached to your application at time of submittal.**
4) Describe your 250 hours of low-level flight experience in a rotorcraft. Include in the description of your experience the type of rotorcraft, total hours, and which employer(s) currently listed on your application, you obtained this experience.
5) Describe your experience conducting 250 hours of external load operations in a rotorcraft. Include in the description of your experience the type of rotorcraft, total hours flown, and which employer(s) currently listed on your application, you obtained this experience
6) Describe your 500 hours of mountain flying experience above 5,000 feet mean sea level in a rotorcraft. Include in the description of your experience the type of rotorcraft, total hours flown, and which employer(s) currently listed on your application, you obtained this experience
7) Indicate if you have 100 hours of flight time in a rotorcraft within the preceding 12 months. In your explanation, include the hours flown, and the type of rotorcraft these hours were obtained. **A copy of your PIC flight log identifying your 100 hours flown in the preceding 12 months must be attached to your application at time of submittal.**
