Safety Specialists promote recognized safety practices among businesses covered by State and federal safety and health laws and regulations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position works within the Department of Business and Industry, Division of Industrial Relations, Mechanical Compliance Section based in Henderson, NV. Incumbents conduct inspections of boilers, pressure vessels and related equipment throughout the State of Nevada. Incumbent may be required to use personal vehicle to conduct State business. Working shifts other than 8:00am to 5:00pm may be required, including weekends. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or a closely related curriculum and two years of experience in the design, construction, repair, or operation of high-pressure boilers and pressure vessels; OR Associate's degree in one of the mechanical technologies from an accredited college and three years of experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
For the Safety Specialist, incumbents must obtain and maintain both a State of Nevada Boiler Inspector's Certificate of Competency within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
For the Safety Specialist, Commission as a National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
